J4s Match report

“Saturday past we took on the might of Coolmine J4s who are unbeaten this year and favourites for the league. They controlled the first half racing into a 17-0 lead after 14 minutes and then added another one or two scores by half time with no reply by Belvo.

In the second half we got more into the game and enjoyed better territorial advantage but, unfortunately could not convert it into points until two minutes from full time when Tim Mullen scored a fine after some great passages of interplay. Sean Murray successfully added the conversion.

It was a disappointing result but our first half performance let us down badly.  On a positive note, which is always good to finish on, we finished the game strongly when easily our heads could have gone down.

Next up is Malahide away Saturday week and hopefully back on to winning ways.

Well done to Coolmine and we wish them well in their games for the rest of the season.”

Steve O’Leary,  Belvo J4s Manager

J3’s beat Dublin University

J3’s: Dublin University 15 Old Belvedere 27

The Belvo J3’s got their first win of the league campaign with a hard earned bonus point victory in Santry over Dublin University.

A poor start saw a sleepy Belvo fall behind by ten points in as many minutes and it looked like it was going to be a long afternoon. However, Old Belvedere kept their heads and pushed through the gears to dominate the rest of the game.

Special mention must go to Club President Steve Tormey who stepped in at late notice to play fly-half. After a shaky first kick he displayed all the old tricks and skills to bamboozle Dublin University and help bring home the spoils. In fact, Steve even managed a try: the result of a wonderful forty yard chip and chase.

Colin Keily, Marcus Hanhoe, Jonathan Ward and Gareth Hughes scored the other tries.
