Belvo win Guilfoyle-James Cup

Congratulations to the Old Belvedere J6 team, captained by Richie Ball, who swept to a 29-0 victory over Wanderers at Donnybrook to win the Guilfoyle-James Cup. Match report by Manager Steve O’Leary below.

A tough encounter against a very young Wanderers side who started the match strongly and inexplicably missed five penalties in a row in the first 20 mins letting Belvo off the hook.  But then the Belvo machine started to fire up with Evan Lett scoring a fine try from inside his own half outpacing the Wanderers defence and then the pack taking a rolling maul off the lineout to make it 10 to nil at half time.

In the second half Belvo really got into the game and began to dominate scoring with Evan Lett scoring another fine try after another fine run, Hugo Whelan and Dan Kane also touching down with fine tries to make it 29-0 .Then the crowd got what they wanted Damien Torsney stripped off the tracksuit and entered the fray, he rolled back the years by putting in a sterling powerhouse performance and nearly crashed over for a try after only being on the pitch for a few minutes. Wanderers to their credit never gave up and were camped on our line for the last five minutes but our resolute defence held firm and jubilation at the final whistle another trophy for the Belvo cabinet.

Congratulations to all involved a great night for all a great night for Belvo and a fine way to finish off the season

Special thanks to Damien Torsney, Richie Ball and all who made it happen Hats off Gents!!!
