Old Belvedere Ladies 21 Portloaise 32

Old Belvedere Ladies fell at home to a strong Portloaise side at Anglesea Road on Sunday.

A sleepy start from the home side gave the visitors a 12-0 lead after just fifteen minutes.

However, Belvo upped the effort and were rewarded with a try shortly after from Centre Shannon Reid (converted by Elaine Cohalan).

The fast paced opening continued as Portliaise scored a third try not long after to make it 17-7.

Old Belvedere then exerted a lengthy period of pressure on the opponent’s line and winger Emer McElhiney finished off a good team move by cleverly twisting herself and the ball over the white wash (see image below). Cohlan again converted.

Halftime 17-14

Belvo indiscipline allowed Portlaise to extend their lead to 20-14 with a penalty not long after the break.

Old Belvedere looked set to at least get a bonus point after excellent forward work saw prop Audrey Messina cross the line late in the second half and the conversion was again added by Elaine Cohalan.

Sadly two late scores from the away side, including one in the last minute, meant Belvo failed to even claim a bonus point.

Ladies beat Malahide

Old Belvedere ladies beat a well-drilled Malahide team on Sunday by 29 points to nil in what was their finest performance of the season.

Belvo absorbed a huge amount of pressure from the opposition in the first twenty minutes before taking control and dominating play from then on.

Move of the match was a down-and-drive from a lineout outside Malahide’s try line which resulted in a well taken try for prop Aoife Kelly. Other try scorers were Elaine Cohalan, Claire Byrne and Anne-Marie Barcoe. Elaine Cohalan displayed some fine kicking with three conversions and a penalty.
