J4’s Match Report

Coolmine 3 Belvo 10

Match report from manager Steve O’Leary:

“Saturday 14th February saw our J4 team take on an unbeaten Coolmine side. The Coolmine club itself had not lost any games this season at any level prior to the weekend.  A win was vital as we needed to keep our chances of play-off qualification alive.

We had played Coolmine earlier in the season and were defeated badly by 35-7.

We started well and found ourselves in a very tough game.  After 30 mins we managed to get our first points on the board with a sweetly struck penalty by Sean Murray to go 3-0 up.  We almost added a try soon after but the final pass didn’t go to hand.  Half time saw the score 3-0 to Belvo.

Coolmine added a penalty soon after the restart to equal the scores.

After another tough thirty minutes, scrum-half Wayne Murphy intercepted a Coolmine pass on the half way line and put in a huge sprint to the the line (with two defenders hot in pursuit) and grounded the ball under the posts.  Sean added the conversion to make it 10 – 3.  Coolmine then began their final assault on our line but huge hits and unbelievably strong and determined defence kept them at bay until the final whistle.  It was a huge result for us and puts us back on track for the play-offs as well as giving us some revenge for our earlier loss at home to Coolmine.

To the squad well done thanks for a huge effort, I know you will all be feeling sore this week but winning should ease the pain.  My thanks to Lee, Tommy Hynes and Gary Keogh for their help.  Also to Mark Belton our captain and man of the match - you led by example.

This Saturday we face Malahide at home (3pm kick off).”
