French Treble-Header at OBRFC
OBRFC v Montpellier Partenaire: 0-7
OBRFC v USAC Nimes: 28-14
OBRFC v France: 21-7
Clear Tournament Winners: OBRFC
Just a short note to say thanks for all the support last Friday night, both on and off the pitch. We showed the two French visiting clubs some great rugby hospitality and an excellent night out. Between Friday night in OBRFC and Saturday's Heineken Cup game, they saw a lot of world class rugby last weekend.
Both clubs, our old friends, Montpellier Partenaire, and our new friends, USAC Nimes, want us to visit them in Spring 2013...any interest?
Special thanks to Jenny in the office, Dec Howard and his catering team, our visionary referee Cillian Hogan, Ben Gormley, and Jimmy O'Neill and Tim Mullen for helping organise a team.
It was a great evening of one-up-manship:
...They brought their local fine wines, fancy cheese and a traditional walnut liquor. We gave them some traditional Irish Chicken Tikka Masala.
...They had a selection of French super models on their sideline. But we had Mark 'Lordy' on our sideline.
...They played former internationals. We played our non-nationals...Sammy, Jimmy...and the Walsh brothers.
… They impressed us with La Marseillaise. But we overwhelmed them with our 'Iguana Wrestling'.
After Friday night, it is clear that French-Irish relations have hit a new high...the Euro and our corporate tax rate are both safe for another few years.
Old Belvedere Man of the Match: Henry Stewart, aged "49 or so", who switched from USAC Nimes to his original OBRFC colours in the last game, almost knocking out Paddy Moyles as he hit a maul.
USAC Nimes Man of the Match: Fabien Galthié, former French International and coach to Montpellier's Heineken Cup team, who played two great games at 9 (no joke). Wardy allegedly 'totally outplayed him' and has forced him into full retirement.
Montpellier Partenaire Man of the Match: Aonghus O'Rourke for his slow motion intercepted pass which created the only score in that game and gave Montpellier Partenaire their first win against us in 4 visits to OBRFC.
(Merci Gus!)
Thanks everyone.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to respond to complaints from 30 Barristers who want to know the legal grounds of their last minute demotion from the 1sts pitch to the 2nds pitch...
