Dear Member,

On behalf of Old Belvedere I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas, and look forward to more success for our great club in the New Year.

A quick review of where we are at so far:-

1st XV

The 1st XV have won the Leinster Senior Cup for the 12th time in our history by beating Blackrock by 16 points to 3. We have 8 bonus points in the AIL after 7 games and no wins, so we're looking for a huge effort to turn this around in 2012.

Representative Honours include: Fergus McFadden for Ireland, Eoin O'Malley for Ireland A and Leinster,  Leo Auvaa for Leinster, Ben Marshall & Danny Riordan for Leinster A and Stuart Maguire for Connaught. We wish Phil, Andy, Richie, Gerry and Eoin every success in the second half of the season.

2nd XV

The seconds have benefited from being part of the Senior Panel and are now sitting on the top of their league.  They also got to their Cup Final.  Eamon Fitzgerald, Tim Jago and Barry O'Carroll deserve great credit.

Junior

Junior Rugby is beginning to grow from strength to strength due to the great work by the management led by George O'Donnell, Paul Davis, Cliff Murphy, Aiden O'Brien, Gary Keogh, Aonghus O'Rourke and Dec Egan.

Old Belvedere is fielding teams at J2, 3 & 4 levels.  There is an average of 30 players training each night. We are mid table in each of the Leagues and looking forward to the Cup Campaigns.

Under 21's

Both the Premier and the Pennant teams are top of their respective JP Fanagan Leagues. The squad under Quentin O'Neill, Dec O'Dowda, Michael Conway and Bryan Redmond deserve great thanks.  They have three players on the Irish U20's squad, Michael Oyuga,  Jack Conan and Jake Cawley,  Michael and Jack have played with the 1st XV) and Aaron Sheehan has also played with the 1st XV

Women's Rugby

The women also have had great success.  The First Team has finished in the top 4 and is into the play-offs.  A traditional game margin of 40 points between them and UL Bohs, the best team in the country, has been whittled down to 17 points. The development squad has retained their Division 4 status and both sides look forward to the Cup. Great thanks to Mark Hill, Yvonne Nolan and Shannon Reid.

Under 17's

We are delighted that Damien Torsney has again agreed to run the Under 17's and they will kick this off in the New Year.

Minis

The Club are very proud of the Minis under the control of Willie McDonald, Jacqui Holmes and their vast number of assistants.  A very important part of the Club continues to go from strength to strength.

Thanks also to Mervyn Feeley, our Director of Rugby and John Mahony, our Chairman of Senior Rugby for looking after the 1sts, Brian Whelan for keeping the pitches in great shape, Gerry Hendron for managing the fixtures, Tara Kelly-Mor for keeping the Social calendar going and the Management Committee for all their efforts so far.

Finally, I would like to pay thanks to all of our own members for their continued support and look forward to seeing you all in 2012.

Happy Christmas to you and your Families.

Noel Shannon
